The thirty individually decorated thatched suites are surrounded by gushing waterfalls and lush sub-tropical gardens. Ten of the suites are en-suite family units, offering a king size bed and two three quarter beds, large oval baths and spacious showers, and private patios.

With décor reflecting the history of the Kruger National Park elephants, the Tusker Suites offer sunken corner baths and private patios, from which guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of the surrounding water features.

The African Tribal Suites offer luxurious spacious bedrooms with romantic four-poster beds, a separate lounge, a twin shower and a sunken window bath offering spectacular views of the sun setting over the Sabie Valley. Fireplaces assure guests of snugly warmth on chilly winter evenings.

The romantic Induna Honeymoon suite, split over three levels, offers sumptuous luxury, and includes a full en-suite bathroom and bubbly Jacuzzi. A large private patio offers peaceful seclusion and a wonderful opportunity to absorb the unspoilt wilderness while sipping delicious cocktails.


Umbhaba Lodge guests frequently sight the resident hippos, Henry and Henrietta. Umbhaba is just 12 kilometres from the Kruger Park. Guests may opt for self-drive safari or go on organised safaris into the park. Game life is prolific in the Kruger – Guests frequently sight the Big Five during safari drives, along with cheetah, hippo, wild dog and a large variety of antelope. There are regular sightings of rare species, such as the roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and wild dog. Guided evening game drives reveal the more rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as porcupine, aardwolf, genet, serval, white tailed mongoose, civet and brown hyena.

Birdlife is prolific with over 450 species recorded. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards. Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds, such as the Lilac-breasted roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite kingfishers are often sighted.

From Johannesburg

  • Take the N12 highway towards eMalahleni (Witbank), after which the road becomes the N4 to Nelspruit.
  • Stay on the N4, passing eMalahleni (Witbank), the Middelburg toll gate (R33,00), Shell Ultra City, Middelburg, Belfast, Engen One Stop, Milly’s Star Stop, Machadodorp and the Machadodorp toll gate (R49,00), Waterval Boven, Waterval Onder and the Sappi Station at Ngodwana.
  • When entering Nelspruit, carry on past the first traffic light and turn left at the second set of traffic lights onto the R40 road.

    Proceed on the R40 to White River.

    Upon entering White River, turn left at the first traffic light, marked Uplands College.

    Approx. 200 m. further is the next traffic light, turn right (marked Hazyview, Baghdad Cafe, Kruger National Park).

    Pass the first traffic light.

    At the second traffic light, the road connects with the R40.

    Turn left towards Hazyview.

    Carry on straight on the R40.

    Proceed straight on towards Hazyview and about 43 kms after White River (2 km before Hazyview) on the left hand side of the road, you will see the Lodge.
