Three deluxe villas and a presidential suite make up the accommodation at Mhondoro. While sleek and sophisticated, the villas blend seamlessly into their surroundings with natural stone and thatched roofs. Privacy and a gorgeous view are two features that come standard, along with indoor and outdoor showers, fireplaces for cozy winter evenings, and spacious decks from which to view the elusive Big Five as they pass through the reserve.
The truly indulgent presidential villa consists of two double rooms connected by an airy living room, which leads on to a private deck with a Jacuzzi. All rooms are temperature controlled, have a mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities and iPod docks so guests can feel right at home.
Game viewing in open safari vehicles is the dream of every visitor to Africa. Game sightings at Mhondoro range from cheetah lounging in the open plains to prides of lion who roam the Sterkstroom valley, calling to one another at night.
Large herds of elephants bathe and play regularly in the waterhole in front of the lodge and the area is frequented by smaller creatures like warthogs, antelope and around 300 species of birds. The mountainous terrain of the Waterberg, elected a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2001 because of its ecological diversity, is divided by the deep valleys and ravines of three main rivers that flow through densely wooded hills.
