The recently launched Jock Explorer Camp is a unique on-foot safari experience, offering adventurous guests an authentic option to immerse themselves into nature while camping in the African bushveld. Hotel Details

The tents, canvas wash basins, paraffin lanterns, and old-style camp beds transport guests back to a bygone era in this meticulously recreated 19th Century camp. The camp consists of three mobile canvas tents, each sleeping a maximum of two people. The tents, although in fairly close proximity to one another, are placed to ensure privacy. The camp is unfenced, ensuring guests an authentic safari experience. Wild animals, including members of the Big Five, may cross through the camp at any time. Each tent has a private en-suite bio- toilet and bucket shower.

The walking safari affords guests the opportunity to get up close to game in areas of the reserve inaccessible by vehicle. Participants may encounter some or all of the Big Five whilst on foot, along with cheetah, hippo, wild dog and a large variety of antelope. Late afternoon and early morning walks may reveal some of the rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as porcupine, aardwolf, genet, serval, civet and brown hyena. Rock dassies, baboon and klipspringer occur frequently in the rocky landscape of the Jock of the Bushveld Concession Area, while giraffe graze on the tall trees and herds of wildebeest and zebra occur in the open plains.

Birdlife is prolific with over 350 species recorded. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards. Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds, such as the Lilac-breasted roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite kingfishers are often sighted.
