Idube Game Lodge has ten spacious individually decorated chalets, each with their own secluded deck. The chalets are all en-suite, with an additional outdoor star-canopied shower. The sumptuous chalets are set in park like gardens, in the shade of ancient knobthorn trees, and the timber decks afford guests a secluded tranquil spot from which to view the warthogs and nyala that frequent the lawns of the lodge. Mosquito netting elegantly drapes the posters of the beds, and protective gauze screen doors allow guests to leave open the main door and be lulled to sleep by the night sounds of the bush, and wakened by a chorus of birdsong in the morning.
The two Makubela suites, secluded in the surrounding bush, offer a luxuriously furnished lounge, and private timber deck and pool. These suites are named in honour of a female leopard, who sought refuge at Idube after being fatally mauled by a male. Guests at these suites have the option of being served a lantern lit romantic dinner on the secluded private deck.
The success of viewing leopard within this area is legendary and guests frequently sight all of the Big Five, along with cheetah, hippo, wild dog and a large variety of antelope, during their stay.
There are regular sightings of rare species, such as the roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and wild dog. Evening game drives reveal the more rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as porcupine, aardwolf, genet, serval, white tailed mongoose, bushbaby, civet and brown hyena.
Birdlife is prolific with over 300 species recorded in the reserve. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards and Spotted eagle owls. Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds, such as the Lilac-breasted roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite kingfishers are often sighted.
Please note: You will need to pay a gate entrance fee of R160 per vehicle and R40 per person. The entrance fee can only be confirmed at the time of making your reservation (Prices subject to change)
